Founded in 1998, Kamaraj College of Engineering and Technology is a well-established college in Madurai District. TN-Edition Bhumi Campus Award 2022 was organized by the Bhumi Charitable Trust. It is Asia's first unique award to recognize socially responsible colleges. The awards aim to strengthen Tamil Nadu colleges' commitment to building future change makers. The college nominees were evaluated by an expert crew of jury members.

The jury selected 30 colleges from 220 applications. They were shortlisted under seven categories. These include 'Excellence in Sustainability', 'Innovation', 'Integration', 'Resource Efficiency', 'Education', and 'Landmark Projects'. Each category was judged by a panel of international experts.

All nominated colleges were invited to the final awards ceremony. Executive Director Sridevi Mohili Needi gave away the awards. She was joined by guests like TVS Sundaram CIO Shankar Viswanathan and environment activist Dr Sultan Ahmed Ismail.

The Bhumi awards are given to institutions that have adopted eco-friendly and socially responsible measures. The winner of the state-level Bhumi Award 2022 was Sona College of Technology. The Vice Chairmen of the college have been guiding the institution in adopting eco-friendly practices. The college's Civil Engineering Department uses paver blocks made from recycled waste.
